The Introduction of the Ruger .22 Automatic in 1949 was the successful beginning of Ruger's legendary rise as a gun manufacturer. Immensely popular from the start, it has sold to date over a million units. The Mark II generation was introduced in the early eighties. Its distinguishing feature is the bolt release at the top of the left grip panel.
